Social Justice
We all exist within specific cultural and social contexts occurring in specific times and places. Our intersecting identities and social locations have an impact on how we experience ourselves, our relationships, and our world. I hold decolonized, liberatory perspectives in my work with clients that affirms strengths-based cultural humility and promotes social, systemic and structural change as mechanisms for mental health and well-being.
Somatics & Mindfulness
Our bodies hold a tremendous amount of wisdom and knowledge about what we have experienced, who we are and who we are becoming. By tapping into the body’s knowingness, we can gain deeper insight into the ways in which experiences of trauma, abuse, overwhelm and stress are informing how we move through our lives.
I work with clients to explore present moment sensation, breath and movement as
a way to connect more deeply with emotions and core beliefs, and incorporate mindfulness practices as a way to slow down, ground in the here and now, manage anxiety and cultivate self-compassion.
REIKI
Reiki is an energy healing technique developed by Mikao Usui. Emerging from the Buddhist tradition, Reiki is derived from the works rei, meaning “universal”, and ki, which refers to the vital life force energy that flows through all living beings. Reiki treatments involve the transmission of healing energy to the body that supports your body’s innate balance and healing mechanisms. Sessions involve gentle touch, with recipients fully clothed. Reiki treatments promote relaxation, reduce stress and anxiety, and support nervous system regulation, and can be used in conjunction with traditional therapy.
Attachment & Spirituality
Human beings are hardwired for connection and community. Relationships developed in our formative years often become the blueprint for how we relate to ourselves and others. By examining relational patterns in the context of a non-judgmental, empathic, honest and caring therapeutic container I help clients identify what no longer serves them and create healthier, more authentic connection with self and others. For some, spirituality serves as a foundation for secure attachment to their authentic self and in the world; serving as a source of strength, a way to find meaning, and is instrumental in sustaining health and well-being.
Foundational Approaches
to Therapy & Healing
Client Centered &
Trauma Informed
Client centered therapy recognizes that you are the expert in your own experience. I use this approach to co-create a therapy space and incorporate tools and interventions that honors each unique human being I work with. In alignment with a client centered approach, I work from a trauma informed perspective. This means that I assume all clients could have a history of trauma: remember trauma is related to how one experiences an event or situation, not the actual event or situation itself. No two human beings are alike; something that is experienced as traumatic by one person may not be experienced as traumatic by another. At the root of trauma informed therapy is transforming the question, “what’s wrong with you” into “what happened to you.”
