TAUNYA’S JOURNEY
Therapy is a process of awareness, acknowledgment and acceptance. Having experienced my fair share of trauma, I know what it’s like to feel unsafe at home and in the world; to feel misunderstood and alone; to yearn to be seen, heard and validated. I also know what it’s like to move through, practice self-compassion, cultivate affirming relationships, and construct a life of joy and purpose.
The various experiences of my life have shaped my ability to see past the obvious, and get to the root of things with empathy and without judgment. We cannot change the past, but we can cultivate the level of self-awareness and skills that allows us to stay with what’s present and consciously shape our future. As we work together to reconcile wounds, and heal what is holding you back, we will also hold space for your “wins”, no matter how big or how small.
My journey to becoming a therapist and healer began with me turning inward to find my own way through trauma and back to my unified self. I have spent over 20 years in deep self-inquiry, interrupting old patterns and building new ways of being in the world. This journey began by delving into spiritual learning and growth through certification in Kundalini and Naam Yoga, study of Universal Kabbalah, and a close apprenticeship with Dr. Joseph Michael Levry. I was also blessed to serve as an editor for Dr. Levry’s writings. My spiritual path led me to understand the ways in which our emotions and cognitions can be expressions of unhealed wounds and unfulfilled needs.
With a desire to gain a deeper understanding of the connection between our minds, bodies, hearts and souls, I entered the Integral Counseling Psychology Graduate Program at CIIS; a psychology program dedicated to exploring the interconnectedness of all aspects of being. My work as a therapist acknowledges the emotional, intellectual, physical and spiritual selves, in ways that work towards a holistic and integrated state of wellbeing.
It is truly an honor to support those who have the courage to face their OWn darkness in the service of individual and collective healing.
If any of this resonates with you, let’s connect.
A bit more about me…
As a biracial, Black, bi-coastal, bi-sexual queer woman and single parent, with familial roots in both the Northeast and the South, I have a lived, experiential understanding of the ways in which binaries operate within the American cultural landscape, and inform the complexities of our collective consciousness.
I am able to traverse the binaries, and the spaces in between, with keen observation and empathy. In addition to my work as a therapist, I am the co-founder of Momentum Collaborative a DEIA consultancy that centers racial equity at the intersections of gender, sexual orientation and accessibility. I also serve as an adjunct professor in the Integral Counseling Psychology program at The California Institute for Integral Studies.
